Horton Plains sits above two thousand metres, and it is the only place in Sri Lanka that feels genuinely cold. The circuit is a nine-and-a-half kilometre loop across open montane grassland and patches of stunted cloud forest, taking in Baker's Falls and both viewpoints.
World's End is the reason to come: an 880-metre sheer drop where the escarpment simply stops, with the southern plains laid out below and, on the clearest mornings, a glimpse of the sea. The catch is timing — cloud fills the gap almost every day between about nine and ten in the morning and does not lift again. That means leaving Nuwara Eliya around 5am. It is worth it.
