The Kandy to Ella Train
Widely called one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world — and your driver meets you at the far end.
The hill country line was built by the British to move tea, and it climbs from Kandy at five hundred metres to over eighteen hundred before dropping into Ella. The last three hours, from Nanu Oya onwards, are the famous part: the track follows the contour of the hills through unbroken tea estates, in and out of tunnels, across viaducts, with the doors open and people sitting in them.
We reserve seats in advance where the quota allows, and — the part that actually matters — your vehicle and driver meet you at the destination station with your luggage. That means you ride the good stretch without spending the day worrying about where your bags are or how you get to the hotel.
