White Water Rafting in Kitulgala
Five kilometres of grade 2–3 rapids through the rainforest valley where The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed.
Kitulgala sits on the Kelani river in wet-zone rainforest, roughly halfway between Colombo and the hill country, and it is the centre of adventure sport in Sri Lanka. The standard rafting run covers about five kilometres and seven named rapids of grade two and three — genuinely fun, but gentle enough for a first-timer and for children from about ten upwards.
The same valley supports canyoning, waterfall abseiling, confidence jumps and jungle trekking, so it works well as a full adventure day rather than a single activity. Everything runs with certified raft guides, helmets and buoyancy aids, and a full safety briefing before you get anywhere near the water.
