Mirissa Whale Watching Tour
A dawn cruise out of Mirissa harbour for blue whales, sperm whales and spinner dolphin pods.

Blue whales, palm-fringed sand and slow evenings
Mirissa is a fishing bay that grew into the south coast's favourite beach town without entirely losing the plot. Between November and April the deep water just offshore draws blue whales, sperm whales and enormous pods of spinner dolphins, and boats leave the harbour before dawn.
Back on land the day runs on beach time: Coconut Tree Hill for sunrise photographs, a long lunch under the palms, surf lessons on the gentler eastern end, and grilled fish on the sand once the light goes. It pairs naturally with Galle, forty minutes west.
Getting there and when to go: Mirissa is about 150 km from Colombo, two and a half to three hours by road via the Southern Expressway, with Galle 40 minutes away. Blue whale and dolphin watching runs from about November to April, when the sea is calm and boats leave early in the morning; the beach is at its best in the same months. From May to October the sea is rougher and whale trips usually stop.
Tell us roughly when you are coming and how long you have. We will put Mirissa into a private itinerary with your own vehicle and chauffeur guide, and send back a firm price.
